Mi Casa Es Su Casa
If you stepped on a scale in Spain
or in Latin America, you would get
the shock of your life. Supposing
you weigh 110 pounds, the scale
would register 50. No, you haven’t
lost any weight. You are just using
another system — the metric system — and you are being weighed in
kilos. Each kilo is approximately
2.2 pounds.
If you entered a clothing store, you
would have to tell the salesperson
your size in centímetros. A size 9
shoe, for example, would be a 40, a
pair of men’s trousers with a 34-inch
waist would be an 86. A doctor taking
your temperature gets a reading
centígrados. A normal temperature
in centígrados is 37°! That’s equivalent
to 98.6° Fahrenheit.
